Jasper County REMC emphasizes electrical safety at every education level. We have programs that range from HeadStart basic education all the way through Emergency Responder full-size hotline demonstrations. Our Member Services coordinator and a lineman will present the information to any audience because you’re never too young, or too old, to learn what’s new in electrical safety.
HeadStart Classroom
Our HeadStart program includes simple coloring books with characters illustrating electrical safety messages and dramatic discussion about climbing trees and flying kites around power lines. We get a lot of audience participation at this level and are able to make sure they understand the information. The coloring books make excellent “story time” reading in the classroom. Interspersed within the message, the kids see some of the tools that linemen use, get a tour of the big line truck and just might get bucket rides if they’re really good students.
1-12 School Classroom
We have a table-top electrical demonstration and many powerpoint presentations that discuss electrical safety, power generation, history of electric cooperatives and renewable energy. The presentations can be used from grade 1st through 12th grade.
Emergency Responder
Watch for public announcements and invitations in October 2019.
Every two years, our linemen present full-size hotline demonstrations at our office for emergency responders in a seven-county area. We invite the usual responders; fire, police, and EMTs; but also invite tow truck drivers, emergency room personnel, local electricians, vendors and even the high school classes training students in medical rehabilitation. The equipment is real. The arcs are real. The impact of the presentation is real. Our goal is to save lives, so this demonstration says it all. This presentation is also available on your grounds providing the proper site conditions are met.
