Our History

  • Jasper County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) was formed by a group of dedicated county residents who needed and wanted electricity for their homes, farms, and other businesses
  • Investor-owned utilities said it wasn’t profitable to provide service to sparsely populated rural areas so our local pioneers banded together to bring power to the rural people of Jasper County.

Rural Electrification Administration

  • March of 1938 – Jasper County REMC was incorporated following the creation of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Rural Electrification Administration (REA)

Our First Power Pole

  • May of 1939 – Our first pole was set
  • July 20, 1939 – our cooperative was energized with 136 members/owners enjoying the many benefits of electric power

Jasper Today

  • Since our inception, Jasper County REMC has been an integral part of the local economy and welfare of our communities
  • We achieve this through our commitment to volunteer efforts, safety presentations, and our support of local organizations
